The Government of Ebonyi State has proudly announced a historic academic milestone as students from the state emerged third among the 12 top-performing states in Nigeria in the recently released 2024 NECO results.

According to verified data released by Statisense, Ebonyi State recorded an outstanding 80.55% of students who scored five credits and above, including Mathematics and English Language. This landmark achievement places Ebonyi State immediately after Abia (83.4%) and Imo (80.98%) States, signaling a renewed rise in the academic strength of the South-East geopolitical zone.

This unprecedented success in Ebonyi State’s educational history is a direct outcome of the visionary leadership and strategic investments made by the present administration under His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, whose administration’s deliberate prioritization of the education sector has started yielding commendable results.

It is heartwarming that in less than two years in office, Governor Nwifuru has taken bold and pragmatic steps towards revitalizing the public education system. These include the comprehensive rehabilitation of dilapidated school structures, provision of modern teaching and learning materials, intensified efforts to recruit more qualified teachers, and enhancement of teachers’ welfare across the board. His administration has equally promoted an inclusive and competitive academic environment to encourage excellence among students and teachers in public schools across the state.

Thrilled by this great feat, the Ebonyi State Honourable Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engr. Jude Chikadibia Okpor acknowledged that for a state that was once relegated to the background in the national education rankings, this achievement signals a significant shift, stressing that Ebonyi is no longer just a state striving for relevance, it is now a state setting the pace for others to follow. Engr. Okpor in his recent press release, noted that from educational advancement to human capital development and infrastructural transformation, Ebonyi State is undergoing a renaissance that is fast attracting national and international attention.

The Honourable Commissioner, therefore, commended all stakeholders in the education sector, ranging from teachers, school administrators, parents, and especially the students for their commitment and contributions to this success story. It is a new dawn in Ebonyi State, and the evidence is clear, providing a beacon light of hope that Ebonyi is actually on the rise.

He further extended his congratulations to the brilliant students who brought pride to the state and assured the good people of Ebonyi that Governor Nwifuru remains irrevocably committed to bringing a better and more education friendly policies and programs for the brighter future of all and sundry in the state.
